Tilapia recipes? Anyone?

I finally found some good quality fresh fish here and I’m really excited about it. I was getting SO tired of chicken. I would’ve opted for Salmon but it looked icky. I want to make it tonight but I don’t want to use way too many ingredients. I’m going to the store in a bit to pick up what other things I need but I still don’t know of any good recipes. I’d rather bake or sautee than poach. Any ideas?

    Cook Time: 18 minutes

    Ingredients:

    4 Tilapia fillets
1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
    Juice of 1 large lemon
    2 tsp oregano
    1/2 tsp paprika
    Freshly ground black pepper

    Preparation:

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Spray an 11-inch by 7-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray. In a small bowl, combine olive oil, lemon juice, oregano, paprika and ground pepper. Lay Tilapia fillets in a single layer in the baking dish. Drizzle oil, lemon and herb mixture over the fish. Cover with foil and bake for 15-18 minutes.

Serve with steamed vegetables and whole grain couscous or rice.

Oh, I should add, this is NOT my recipe. Someone gave it to me but it is easy and low fat.

Hey, I am new to this whole buddyslim website!..however, your blog caught my eye. I LOVE Tilapia! All I ever do to prepare it is spray my glass baking dish with non-stick cooking spray and sprinkle a bit of pepper and lemon juice on top of the fish and then bake it at 375 degrees until the fish flakes easily with a fork. It sounds kind of boring I know…but it is pretty tasty without adding any extra fat or calories to it!

I made a sauce this last weekend to marinate and grill my shrimp with. It turned out really good and I plan to use this same sauce to baste Tilapia with later this week.

    3 teaspoons minced garlic
    1/3 cup olive oil
    1/4 cup tomato sauce
    2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
    1 tablespoon basil
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    1/4 teaspoon red cayenne pepper

I plan to bake the tilapias and baste with the sauce.

    Hugggggggggggggggggs,
    Shan

I love to bake the tilapia in the oven and put some salad dressing on it for flavor… like a yummy sesame ginger dressing. It adds a healthy, tasty flavor. hmm! I want some now too!

Thanks people!! And Hannah, I’m glad to see you’re still here! I just baked it in the oven with some seafood seasoning and a little spray butter. It was kinda fishy tasting, which surprised me because it’s fresh. I think I didn’t season it enough. Well it came with 10 filets so I’ll be able to try each recipe, I’ll keep you all updated. And thanks again!

If you like crab cakes, you could try this recipe

    Tilapia Cakes (SERVES 4)

    16 ounces tilapia fillets
1/2 cup whole wheat crackers, crushed (if you are low carb or just want more veggies you could use shredded carrot)
    4 egg whites
1 teaspoon garlic salt (or Old Bay Seasoning)
    1 1/2 tablespoons parsley
    1 cup spinach, shredded
    salt and pepper
    Preheat oven to 375.
    Shred tilipia into small chunks.
In a large bowl combine all ingredients thoroughly.
Form mixture into four patties or ‘cakes’and place on greased tin foil. Place the foil with cakes on them in oven for 10 minutes.
Turn broiler on after the ten minutes and cook for another 5 minutes (total cook time is 15 minutes) Tops should begin to look brown and toasted.
